Instagram Update: Account Switching Is Here

Yes, you got it right - Instagram finally gave us what every marketer and multi-account user of the platform has been dreaming about for the last 5 years - easy way to switch between the accounts.

The quiet roll-out was briefly announced on Instablog on 8 Feb 2016, they simply said:

“Account switching will be available as part of Instagram version 7.15 for iOS and Android.”

It took them a while, but now the Account Switching is a reality for the most popular photo sharing app. And it was worth the wait.

Here is how account switching works:

Step 1 - Add a New Profile

Obviously, you need to be already logged in. Then, from the profile screen, you go to the settings menu. Here scroll to the very bottom and tap on "Add Account".

Step 2 - Log In

Pretty straight forward - input your credentials and tap log in

Step 3 - Enjoy!

From now on, your "My Profile" button will change from a standard icon to the profile picture of the account you are currently browsing from.

To switch the active account, you only need to go to your profile screen and tap on the name, which now is a drop-down menu.

And that's it! As simple as that you are now browsing from a different account. Also, each notification you receive from Instagram will now have a [nametag] at the beginning of the notification to let you know which account has received a like, comment or a follower.

These notifications do not depend on the account you are currently using so you do not need to worry about always switching from one account to another.

In case you tap on a notification from a different account, the app will switch you automatically and will let you know about this with a nifty little green bar describing the switch.

However, according to Instagram's Help Desk, you can add maximum up to 5 accounts. Which, just to be fair, is great (much better than the crazy manual logging in and out) but might be not enough for some agencies or marketing professionals. Nevertheless, this is great news for the Instagram community.
